FAQs

Questions About Acne

Acne has been misunderstood, misdiagnosed, and mistreated for centuries. Generations past believed that angry, red lesions and pustules resulted from impure thoughts. Here, we answer some frequently asked questions about this all-too-common skin problem.

Q. What role does stress play in acne flares?

A: Stress can cause hormone fluctuations that prompt oil surges and follicle inflammation that lead to breakouts.

Q. Do greasy foods, chocolate, dairy, and other foods make acne problems worse?

A: In general, yes. It is very important to have a balanced diet, and foods high in fats and sugars are not good for the body in large quantities. What goes in the mouth must come out. So oily foods cause more oil in the skin.

Q. What is the best way to control oiliness?

A: Mild, foaming, rinse able cleansers remove excess oil. Look for a wash-type product with an effective cleansing agent like ammonium lauryl sulfate. (Avoid sodium lauryl sulfate, which is an irritant.) Clean your skin twice daily, or three times a day at the most. Excessive cleansing can cause inflammation that may make acne worse.

Q. How long does it take to clear a blemish?

A: Don’t panic. It takes about three days to go away. Start by using our On The Go product. Then add Benzo Clear 5 or 10, and if it’s really nasty, put Maxi Clear on the spot before bedtime. Wake up and apply On the Go once again.

Questions About VersaClear Phototherapy

Here are some common questions and answers about this exciting new treatment:

Q. What is VersaClear Pro Acne Phototherapy?

A:VersaClear Pro Acne Phototherapy is a professional skin treatment that uses the power of light to improve the appearance of acne-prone skin. Light treatments are completely UV-free.

Q. How does it work?

A:The VersaClear Pro produces light of specific wavelengths that have been clinically proven to reduce the appearance of inflammatory acne. Intense light penetrates deep into the skin stimulates the production of "singlet oxygen", which is lethal to the bacterial responsible for acne.

Q. How long does a treatment session take?

A:Each VersaClear Pro Acne Phototherapy session takes about 20 minutes.

Q. How many treatment sessions are needed?

A:A total of 8 sessions, once or twice a week, are recommended. Additional sessions might be necessary for highly inflamed skin. Consult your skin care professional, who will develop a custom program to fit your needs and busy schedule.

Q. Does it hurt?

A:No! Treatments are painless and soothing. You and your skin will feel relaxed and refreshed.

Q. How long does it take to recover?

A:There is no recovery time. Skin medications or make-up can be re-applied immediately after treatment.

Q. When will I see results?

A:Many clients experience an immediate invigorating effect. Every person's skin is different, so results will vary. However, after several treatment sessions, you likely will see that a transition is underway. Existing acne lesions will resolve, pore size will be reduced, and skin tone will improve. New flares of acne might occur during the treatment course. However, this is part of the skin's natural healing process to unclog pores and expel dead bacteria and debris.

Q. What types of acne will it clear?

A:VersaClear Pro Phototherapy is used to treat mild to moderate inflammatory acne. This type of acne consists of small red papules and/or pustules in the skin. If left untreated, inflammatory acne can result in permanent scarring.

Q. How long will the results last?

A:Skin appearance continues to improve after the last phototherapy session is completed. How long results will last depends upon many things, including heredity and lifestyle. However, a high quality skin maintenance program will enhance results. This typically involves a once or twice daily salicylic acid wash, followed by the application of a topical skin medication such as benzoyl peroxide. For women, the use of anticomedonal skin makeup is essential. Consult your skin care professional for specific product recommendations.

Questions About Teeth Whitening

Here are some answers to some commonly asked questions about teeth whitening:

Q. How long will my results last?

A: Clients may have whiter teeth that last for 1-2 years. However, the daily eating and drinking habits that changed the tooth color initially will again change them over time. Most people find that by doing a weekly at home whitening touch up and having follow up treatments help maintain their whiteness.

Q. How many shades whiter can I expect my teeth to get?

A: Individual results may vary, but many people see a 2-7 shade difference after one treatment and up to 12 shades of whiter teeth with two treatments.

Q. How does the actual bleaching process work?

A: Although the surface of the teeth are porous. Over time, the teeth become stained due to the coloration of certain foods and drinks which enter these pores and causes them to darken. The Hydrogen Peroxide is extremely small in molecular size which makes it easy to penetrate the tooth’s enamel. The ingredients diffuse into the teeth where the active oxygen is produced and the tooth is lightened by the actual conversion of the colored compounds into colorless ones. Although the chemicals do penetrate the tooth’s enamel, it does not change or hurt it.

Q. Can you tell me about the procedure I will be getting today.

A: After filling out the necessary paperwork, we will provide with an oral brush-up to remove any surface barriers. We will find your beginning tooth shade on the guide and record it to compare with after the treatment. We will provide you with all necessary supplies to prepare your mouth and teeth for the whitening. You will paint your teeth with the gel, put your protective glasses on start the machine and relax for 10-15 minutes. We will then ask you to wipe your teeth clean and repeat the process for a second 10-15 minute session. When you are finished we will compare your beginning shade to your new whiter shade. What you will be left with is a whiter smile!
