Acne has been misunderstood, misdiagnosed, and mistreated for centuries. Generations past believed that angry, red lesions and pustules were the results of impure thoughts. We are told that they are caused by eating chocolate and pizza ( although good nutrition can diminish the severity of acne). Here are some common questions about acne.

Q. What role does stress play in acne flares?

A: Stress actually can cause hormone fluctuations that can cause sudden surges of oil and follicle inflammation that can lead to sudden break outs.

Q. Do greasy foods, chocolate, dairy and other foods cause or make acne problems worse?

A: In general yes. It is very important to have a balanced diet, and certainly foods high in fats and sugars are not good for the body in general in large quantities. What goes in the mouth must come out. So oily foods cause more oil in the skin.

Q. What is the best way to control oiliness?

A. Home use of mild, foaming, rinse-able cleansers removes a lot of excess oil. Look for a wash-type product with an effective cleansing agent like ammonium lauryl sulfate. Avoid Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in cleansers. See ingredient list for other irritants. The skin should be cleaned at least twice, and no more than three times a day. Excessive cleansing can lead to inflammation that can worsen acne conditions.

Q. How long does it take to clear a blemish?

A. Don’t panic. It takes about 3 days to battle a blemish. You first have to attack it with On The Go. Then add Benzo Clear 5 or 10, and if it is really nasty put Maxi Clear on top and sleep with it on. Wake up and apply On the Go.

Skincare effective Ingredient "DMAE"

DMAE is a nutritional substance that can be found in fish such as salmon. It is an anti-inflammatory, anti-aging topical agent that increases skin health, tone and radiance. A landmark study in which DMAE and Alpha Lipoic Acid were combined in a topical solution showed marked resolution in scarring for patients with surgical scars when applied twice daily. It can also reduce the severity of atrophic (indented) acne scars. DMAE can also act as a penetration enhancer to increase the anti-inflammatory effects of alpha Lipoic acid. Topical application of DMAE has a cumulative effect and can decrease the appearance of large pores over time. Dmae improves firmness in the skin.
